Unit 8: Post-A.P. Exam Research
1. Introduce research project--students will be assigned The Mystery of Capital by Hernando de Soto, which will be read over the next two weeks. Begin reading Chapter One: "The Five Mysteries of Capital," and begin completing the Focused Note-taking worksheet to help guide class discussions over the next few days. [5/21]
2. Discuss Chapter One. Read Chapter Two: "The Mystery of Missing Information," with its Focused Note-taking worksheet due on Friday, May 20th. [5/22]
3. Discuss Chapter Two. Read Chapter Three: "The Mystery of Capital," completing its Focused Note-taking worksheet.by Tuesday, May 24th. [5/23]
4. Discuss Chapter Three. Read Chapter Five: "The Missing Lessons of U.S. History," completing its Focused Note-taking worksheet by Wednesday, May 25th. [5/24]
5. Complete work on Focused Note-taking worksheets and finish reading chapters 1-3 and 5. [5/25]
6. Discuss Chapter Five. Finish reading the rest of the book on your own. Book will be due next week. [5/29]
7. Begin watching economics-based videos, and analyzing them. [5/29-5/31]
8. Review for Final Exam. [6/1]
9. Final Exam, June 8th from 10:15-11:45AM. Turn in textbooks and Mystery of Capital when done. [6/6]
10. Graduation, 5PM on Friday June 10th. Congratulations to our seniors! [6/8]
students will choose a topic covering either globalization or wealth inequality from the instruction sheet given to them. Students will write a 3-5 page research paper on the topic chosen, which will be due on May 30, 2014. (See rubric here.) Reading, research, and writing done during class and at home. [5/19-23]
2. Watch economics-based movies. Analyze each video with the Motion Picture Analysis form, which will be due the day after each movie is done. [5/27-6/5]
